Well, I have been cheering for eleven years, and the most important thing is confidence. You have to go into it knowing that you are going to do your best. Also, even if you have a bad memory, you will find that as long as you work at it, the cheers and dances aren't that hard to remember it.

I am captain of my squad, and we run tryouts where there are two days. The first is the day where the girls all learn the routines, and the second is the actual tryout day. It is different in every school though, you would have to ask your coach. The people teaching you the routine will also most likely teach you the dance or cheer after showing you. It really depends on the cheerleading program in your school though.

so i tried out this year
and i made it!

it was SO nerve wracking!

so my freshman year of highschool, i decided to not do it because i was too chicken, and i thought my older sister (who is captain) wouldn't want me to be on it
now entering sophmore year, as a freshman i tried out, and i mentally prepared myself for failure...the game cheers were easy, but the longer dances, omg. i didn't even know the first five counts. but luckily my sister was captain, so she helped me and shes the only reason i made it...but i didn't even know half the cheer. so for tryouts we had to do 2 different cheers, and 2 dances, and a toe touch
i ****** at the 2 dances, and i rocked the 2 cheers, and the toe touch was ok. and i made it...its really fun, but you have to work out A LOT. my coach is nice, so i dunno about yours...so yeah. try out! you never know!

Hey! im a cheerleader at my high school and i have a lot of experience. You definatly need to have an idea of what you are doing, but there may be some girls at tryouts willing to help you out. So just make sure your are fairly flexible (this is key!) and they will have you learn a short chant, so if there are clinics before tryouts make sure to attend. annnd practice!
Good luck!

well, I've never actually been a cheerleader but I have been one for a play. A high school cheerleader came and showed me a few moves and she told me the 2 most important things about cheerleading:
1. always smile, even if someone steps on your foot.
2. be spastic, like your joints are springs.
I'm sure you'll do fine, just be yourself. (Unless your emo and or gothic cuz most cheer squads look for peppy.)
good luck! =]

they would usually tell you to come to tryouts with a cheer thats it. They may give you a couple of days. Just get together with some of your friends and work on the routine with them. Go to the tryouts with confidence and practice a lot and you wont have any problems.

Yes.
They put you to do motions, and maybe pyramids.
In a pyramid,it may depend where they place you ( if your skinny,a flyer, and if your not,you carry.
Motions are movements ( like dance steps, but using your arms more)
Perhaps cheering also.
Gymnastics may also be important, but you will probably just need a cartweel ans splits, minimum.
When they put you to do a dace or cheer, remember to SMILE!
If your good at dancing you will get a kick outta it.
Good luck!

Email me via my profile if you want more questions about cheerleading.
